Lake Cerknica, an important part of the Notranjska Regional Park, has stirred people's imagination for centuries. The first one to write about it was a Greek geographer, Strabo, in the 1st century, but it was described in detail by Johann Weikhard von Valvasor in the 17th century. People's interest in the lake and its surroundings has left behind a host of different maps and sketches that enable us to follow the events in the course of time.
