It is true that orchids are most diverse in the tropics, but some of them can also be found here. Green-winged orchid is one of them.
Despite its Slovenian name (implying its frequency), and the fact that it is still the most common among Slovenia's meadow orchids, encounters of this plant can no longer be taken for granted.Due to cessation of extensive and nature-friendly management of meadows on one side, and increased farming on the other, its populations are dropping throughout Europe.
So let's take time to observe the green-winged orchid in nature, on its meadows on poor and dry soil. The meadows where it grows are most colourful of all, and, therefore, a feast for the eye.
