Discover: Selšček, the hometown of Maksim Gaspari

Take a stroll in Selšček – the birthplace of Slovenian artist Maksim Gaspari. The village was awarded by the Tourist Association of Slovenia in 2020 for having the best village core. In the village center, there's a statue of the artist. You can learn about his life and art with a local guide, Robert Kužnik. As you explore the village, be sure to appreciate unique house numbers that display the artist's motifs instead of traditional numbers.

We will end our visit with a meal at the historic Notranjska house, built in 1884. The house has a wood-burning stove, brick oven and other antique furnishings that let us experience the life of our ancestors or our childhood.

If all spots are taken, priority will be given to those who have registered.

To reach Selšček,
take the Unec exit from the highway and head left towards Unec, Rakek, and Cerknica. Before Cerknica, go towards Begunje pri Cerknici at the roundabout. Take a turn to the right in Begunje pri Cerknici in the direction of Rakitna. Selšček is the initial village after Begunje pri Cerknici.

You can visit the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica and Križna Cave without any prior notice. The tours start at 11:00, 13:00, and 15:00 every day. The sights and the Museum of Lake Cerknica can also be visited at different times, but only with prior booking.
