Discover: Selšček, the hometown of Maksim Gaspari

The event will take place again in September, and you are also invited to see other experiences in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica.

Take a stroll in Selšček – the birthplace of Slovenian artist Maksim Gaspari. The village was awarded by the Tourist Association of Slovenia in 2020 for having the best village core in Slovenia. In the village center, there's a statue of the artist. You can learn about his life and art with a local guide, Robert Kužnik. As you explore the village, be sure to appreciate unique house numbers that display the artist's motifs instead of traditional numbers.

We will finish with a meal in the restored traditional Notranjska house, with the year 1884 on the portal, which was once a furman's guesthouse and shop. With freshly baked bread from the brick oven and cold cuts made from local delicacies, you will relive the life of our grandmothers and grandfathers or our childhood.

*How to get to Selšček?
From the highway, take the exit Unec exit turn left towards Unec, Rakek and Cerknica. Before Cerknica at the roundabout, drive towards Begunje pri Cerknici, and in Begunje pri Cerknici turn right (in the direction of Rakitna). Selšček is the first village you will come to from Begunje pri Cerknici.

The sights can also be visited at other times upon prior reservation.
