Hike: Trail Drvošec - with breathtaking views of Lake Cerknica

Lake Cerknica is a unique global phenomenon. The area changes annually from 0.1 km2 during the drought to 26 km2 when it is flooded. Where does this gigantic amount of water come from? Where does it disappear in the summer-time? What's going on underground? What does all this mean for humans, animals, and plants? 

You will get the answers to all these questions during a pleasant walk along the award-winning trail Drvošec by the largest lake in Slovenia in the company of local guide Natalija Vrhunc.

You will admire the beautiful views of the lake and its sinkholes from the observation decks, and you will also enjoy a delicious homemade snack on one of them. You will discover the secrets of nature with the help of interpretation didactic points, relax at the observatories and the 10-meter-high observation tower, and you will be taken back to the starting point by a hay carriage ride, which is a special experience itself. You will go home full of fresh air and expansive views, and with pieces of the blue-green puzzle of the Notranjska region in your heart.

You can also visit the Visitor center Lake Cerknica and Križna Cave (every day at 9:00, 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00) without prior notice. Both sights and the Museum of Lake Cerknica can also be visited at other times with prior reservation.
